Bao’s Top Five Sexy Hairstyles for Fall

Summer is almost over (even though it sure doesn’t feel like it in beautiful -scorching hot- sunny Southern California.  So our dear Bao has compiled a list of the cutest hairstyles for the Fall 2009!

1. Brushed Out Spiral Curls
Bao likes this look because your hair will have a nice spiral curl, but it won’t look too perfectly curled and hairsprayed, like you’re trying hard, haha.  Run your fingers after you curl your hair with a one inch barrel iron or use a paddle brush to fluff it up.  To avoid frizz, spritz a tiny bit of hairspray.

The wash and go hair!  Perfect for those girls that just rather sleep in, hop in the shower and leave the house with their hair wet! Like Bao!

Can’t wait until your hair grows out? Why not just fake the funk! You could either go to a hair salon and spend hundreds of dollars for braid-in hair extensions, or you can go to Sally Beauty Supply store and buy a pack of clip-on human hair extensions for $60. Treat it like your own hair: shampoo, condition, and blow dry it! You can even dye it!

If you decide to cut them at home, make sure you form a triangle at the top of the bangs, and always leave the sides slightly longer than the middle to avoid any mess ups. It’s an instant makeover if you’re just bored of your hair one night. Instant gratification! Use hair scissors, not paper scissors, trust Bao (and me), we learned our lesson! To be safe rather than sorry, go to a hair salon – it only costs $5-10 for bang trim. And bring a picture, it speaks a million words!

5. fishtails braids
Okay, this one’s kinda tough. Bao likes the look but has not yet achieved it. (Heck, she can’t even do an old fashion braid – her own words, not mine!).  So Bao found a very nice youtube tutorial. It’s in Japanese, but you’ll get the idea!

Simple, Cute Solution for Your Oily Bangs

Wednesday nights are typically GNOs. Can’t skip out on a GNO! Which means that I accidentally sleep in every Thursday. A few bottles of wine paired with comfort food topped with hours of girl-talk will do that to you. Not being able to wake up on time means that there’s no way I can take my nice morning showers, often ensuring that my bangs will be disgustingly oily all day long—definitely, not cute.

Of course, Bao comes to the rescue with her miracle knowledge of oily bang control. She recommended that I purchase something like Urban Outfitters’ Beaded Applique Headwrap. This cute headwrap is made of stretchy elastic and topped with adorable beaded appliqué in a number of styles.

What you can do is swoop those nasty, oily bangs to the side and the elastic headwrap holds it in place all day! You can lightly hairspray for extra hold. And since it’s not just your average looking elastic headband, your DO’s going to look super cute. And here I was thinking I’d have to look like a greaseball every Thursday.

Gotta love Bao. She has the simplest and cutest solutions for everything.

Perfect Beach Hair

wave spray duoIt’s almost swimsuit season and it’s time to bust out the wave spray for some bomb, beachy hair.

I like Frederic Fekkai’s Wave Creating Spray.  I saw it at Sephora and decided to give it a try since you can pretty much return anything at that store.

So I tried it and I love it!  It totally gives you that bouncy, beachy look all day long.  It adds a nice gloss without weighing it down and making it all greasy.

I just took a look at all the reviews at Sephora.com, and some people hate this product.  I think a lot of people aren’t using it right.

Here are my tips:

  • I noticed it’s always better to fully shampoo and condition your hair first.
  • The first key point is to let your hair sit in a towel for a bit so your it’s not drenched; it doesn’t work too well when your hair is dripping wet.
  • Next, spray about 5-6 sprits (I have long hair) and lightly massage throughout hair.
  • Now just take small sections of your hair and twist it around your index finger to form multiple ringlets throughout your hair for better wave definition.
  • Here’s the second key point.  You MUST have a blow dryer with a diffuser.  If you don’t use a diffuser, the waves really don’t come out at all for me.
  • Diffuse hair thoroughly while holding the diffuser longer on the dampest parts of your hair.

That’s it! Light, wavy, super cute BEACH hair.  You’re ready for summer!
