Hello Kitty and Swarovski Make Music

October 26, 2009 by cindy

Hello Kitty Swarovski studded music playerMouse Computer recently announced the launch of the Hello Kitty Music Player adorned with 300 bling-bling pieces of Swarovski crystals (gasp!) So while this may not be a big deal to many, being a lover of Hello Kitty since age 2, this cutesy, sparkly news made my heart skip a little beat.

The cute mp3 player has 2GB of memory and allows for ten hours of continuous playback time, pretty nice! It also comes with specially designed Audio Technica earphones. It is said the tone quality can be enhanced with 5 EQ presets including Normal, Classical Jazz, Pop and Rock (how snazzy). The player supports MP3 and WMA format. The controls (play, stop, fast forward, back and volume) are placed nicely on the back of the player and don’t disturb the aesthetic on the front^^ Lastly, the included USB cable has cute, little illustrations of Hello Kitty printed on the connector section.

The adorable Hello Kitty Crystal Music Player will be available October 30th in Japan for approximately $150. I’ll be going to Japan next month, and I’m extremely tempted to pick one up…

Glow-in-the-Dark Jello (with Gin and Tonic!)

October 22, 2009 by cindy

glow_in_the_dark_jello
Glow in the Dark Jello?! Perfect for Halloween! This amazing little food invention was discovered by British food-design / architecture team Bompas & Parr who worked with an explosives expert to create this luminous, super cool Halloween treat for the big kids. The explosives expert came up with an edible ingredient that when added to Jell-O, it would cause this eerie glow. It turns out, when you add TONIC WATER to the jiggly-wiggly dish, it will appear to glow under the black light because of the quinine which is UV reactive! Scary and totally awesome!

Here’s Bompas & Parr’s yum-yum recipe:

INGREDIENTS
• 150 milliliters gin, such as Hendrick’s
• 300 milliliters Indian tonic water
• 50 milliliters Simple Syrup
• Splash of rose water
• 5 gelatin leaves
• UV black light

INSTRUCTIONS
Combine gin, tonic water, simple syrup, and rose water in a large heatproof measuring cup; set aside.

Cut gelatin leaves into fine pieces and place in a heatproof bowl. Add enough gin and tonic mixture to cover and set aside until gelatin softens.

Place softened gelatin mixture over a pan of simmering water and heat until gelatin leaves are fully melted.

Remove gelatin mixture from heat and stir in the remainder of the gin and tonic mixture. Strain back into the measuring cup. Pour into a jelly mold or bowl and refrigerate until set.

Unmold jelly by briefly immersing the mold or bowl in a bowl of hot water, then invert over a serving plate. For maximum effect, turn off all the lights and switch on a black light, then serve the glowing jelly to thrilled diners.

Ta-dah!

Total: 20 mins, plus time to set
Active: 20 mins
Makes: About 3 servings

“So you can use regular jello and sub tonic water for regular water and
it looks like it glows under black light! ooh!”
~Mari

Barnes & Noble’s Double Screen E-Reader

October 15, 2009 by cindy

Exclusive_ First Photos of Barnes & Noble_s Double Screen E-Reader - Barnes and Nobles reader - GizmodoBarnes and Nobles has been developing their very own e-reader for quite some time now—and here are its first shots!

Officially to be released next week, this device features a black and white e-ink screen (just like the Kindle), but the major difference is the multitouch display like an iPhone. Barnes and Nobles will sell the books they publish at a much cheaper price than its printed counterparts, and it is said to have access to all the books scanned by Google Books project, which is great because a lot of those are out of print. The name of the gadget will be revealed very soon.

I’m not sure how I feel about e-readers, whatever the brand. I really like having a physical book where I can turn the pages, but I also love portable, sleek gadgets that save tons of space, so I guess I’m just torn.

Although I’m super excited to see how B&N does, I think I can wait until a truly unique e-reader that is pure awesomeness to come out before I make this investment…

What are you thoughts?

My 7-Eleven Domo Straw Figurine Action Shots!

3_domo_straws_seven_eleven_billboardI just went to the 7-Eleven on Olympic and La Cienega, and I was surrounded by Domo!

Although I was hoping for a more crazy look and feel (as per my previous post), I must say, I was quite pumped and excited — as you can see from all the pictures I took of the Domo figurines that come with the straw (cost $1.99 and I bought three…).

There are tons more pics below of the actual 7-Eleven store experience with Domo all around.  Enjoy!

Domo invades 7-Eleven…TODAY!!!!

October 1, 2009 by cindy

Domo_at_7Eleven_ Slurpee Nation_1_yellow_drinkDomo, the big, brown furry ball of super cuteness invades 7-Eleven stores starting today!  This will be similar to the time the simpsons (another love of mine) turned the convenience store into a kwik-e-mart.  This time around, 7-Eleven will feature DOMO FUJI FROST FLAVORED SLURPEE (yummmmmm), DOMO COFFEE CUPS (kyaaaa!), and even itty bitty hot dog containers (OMG) and much, much more! Read the press release below and see more pictures/videos from slurpee.com, 7-Eleven and Domonation :D   Check out my personal Domo/7-Eleven experience too!

Domo_at_7Eleven_ Slurpee Nation_1
DALLAS–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Domo, the fuzzy brown creature with a trademark enigmatic open-mouth expression, takes 7-Eleven® stores by storm this fall. From collectible Slurpee® cups filled with Fuji Frost by Fanta, and flocked Slurpee character straws to Big Bite® hot dog containers, coffee cups and even an exclusive Domo Attack! Energy drink, Domo will have 7-Eleven customers seeing brown, interrupted by red and sharp white teeth.

Created by Japanese illustrator and director Tsuneo Goda as the mascot for Japanese public television station NHK in 1998, Domo has a unique look and personality that quickly catapulted the character into one of the Internet’s biggest sensations. Domo has achieved pop culture super-status through user-generated content and thousands of viral videos on popular websites like YouTube, Facebook and Flickr.

domo_slurpee_straw_mask“Fuji Frost has a sweet red-apple taste, which is a tongue-in-cheek choice since apples are the one food Domo doesn’t like,” said Jay Wilkins, 7-Eleven category manager for proprietary cold beverages. “Because Domo loves Slurpee drinks and appears everywhere in our stores, theoretically Fuji Frost Slurpee drinks are Domo-proof.” Fuji Frost is named for Mount Fuji, Japan’s most well-known landmark.

A new three-part webisode, which can be viewed exclusively online at www.slurpee.com and www.domonation.com, tells the story of Domo and his friends on a quest for a Slurpee beverage. Each of the 30-second segments will debut weekly on the two websites starting Oct. 1. The stop-action animated Domo video was created and produced exclusively for 7-Eleven by dwarf inc., the Japanese animation company that originally created Domo and all his friends.

Collectible cups feature Domo and his furry sidekicks enjoying Slurpee drinks and one showing Domo experiencing a Brainfreeze™. For Domo fans, a tiny flocked Domo character is affixed to premium Slurpee straws, selling for $1.99. From hip hop to wrestling themes, each of the four Slurpee straws features Domo sporting a different costume and accessories.
Domo_headphones_slurpeeCoffee and Big Bite hot dogs, two of 7-Eleven’s best-selling proprietary items, also get ‘Domo-nized’ as a limited offering through Nov. 15. To reach younger coffee drinkers, 7-Eleven is offering coffee in a special brown Domo cup for just 99 cents. Store signage promoting the coffee deal urges customers to “Obey the Domo.” Likewise, the Big Bite hot dog also will retail for 99 cents and be served in a cardboard “clam-shell” carrier resembling Domo’s face, with the mouth opening to reveal the food.

“You won’t be able to go to a 7-Eleven store in October and miss Domo,” Wilkins said. “We’ve let Domo fans know he’s coming with notices on Facebook and Twitter, and the online buzz about his 7-Eleven debut has already been building.”

A larger-than-life Domo candy display will feature Snicker’s and Reese’s candy bars in the open mouth of the character as well as a shelf to display Domo DVDs ($15.99), where available. Collectibles like Domo Qee* miniature action figures in cup-like packaging ($9.99), Domo Manga comic books ($3.99), plush characters and apparel, like caps and T-shirts are also available. 7-Eleven has even emblazoned special-edition gift cards with Domo’s likeness. Domo is also front and center on much of the in-store product signage and storefront banners.

Big Tent Entertainment, the marketing and licensing company behind Domo, helped broker the deal with 7-Eleven. “Because Domo has such a hugely devoted, cult-like following among kids, teens and young adults, we believe he’s a perfect match for 7-Eleven and its iconic Slurpee brand,” said Big Tent Chief Executive Officer Rich Collins. “7-Eleven has created some very cool collectible items that will have Domo fans and Slurpee drinkers alike coming back for more.”

A Cute, White Designer Netbook – HP Mini 110

September 20, 2009 by cindy

Picture 2089 « HP Mini 110 by Studio Tord Boontje is Covered in Endangered AnimalsLooks like the success of Vivienne Tam’s digital clutch spawned the creation of this new and much cheaper super cute white netbook. Designer Tord Boontie teams up with HP to create a lovely flora design which weaves around to create one extraordinary and sexy netbook. This new HP Mini 110 is said to feature Imprint 3D, the first ever three-dimensional surface technology which uses coats of in-mold decoration layering various inks, textures and colors to create complex and unique designs. What’s kind of neat about this netbook is that the design spills over to the palm rest and touchpad. Tord Boontie also designed 15 wallpapers, a custom theme, screen saver and icons, which of course come in the package. I really like the idea of cute, custom icons instead of the boring generic icons we’ve been seeing for decades.

Pricing begins at $399.00.

Spiderman in Pink: Adorable as Hello Kitty, Strange as David Lynch

September 15, 2009 by cindy

Spiderman_Arms_junko_mizuno
I love cute comics, and this adorable, girly Spiderman comic by talented manga artist Junko Mizuno is a must read! In August, Marvel Comics posted two preview pages of Junko’s story called “Welcome to Spider Town” and is now featured in Strange Tales #1. Sean Collins from Marvel describes the comic as “adorable as Hello Kitty but as strange as David Lynch.” Junko Mizuno admits she’s never really read Marvel comics, but does a hilariously, awesome job nonetheless. Spiderman is so cute when he’s eating the pink Jello, and I love his pose when he realizes his webs are now pink. Look at his little hands! Funny and cute, what a great combination! I would love to see more of this from Miss Mizuno!

Cute, Affordable Skinny Jeans

September 15, 2009 by cindy

cute_skinny_jeans_1I just bought two pairs of skinny jeans from Forever 21 for about $12.00 each. Love the price, love the look but I’m not in love with the feel. They are pretty thin and the material feels a bit scratchy. Yup, you totally get what you pay for. I’m not regretting it or anything, but I don’t know if I’d buy jeans from Forever anymore.

We recently found the site, Lulus.com. Bao did a post about the Jeffrey Campbell ‘s strappy chain heels. Browsing on the site a few more minutes, we found three nice pairs of really cute, affordable (but not overly cheap) skinny jeans in a variety of styles and colors.

cute_skinny_jeans_faded_black_denimBowie Skinny Jean by Celebrity Pink $33.00
Faded black denim and a classic 5 pocket style.
I kind of like how it scrunches up at the bottom. These would look lovely with my new black flats.

cute_skinny_jeans_grey_grayCelebrity Pink Bay of Bengal Grey Skinny Jeans $39.00
Love the color of these grey skinny jeans. Great for any occasion.

cute_skinny_jeans_casualCelebrity Pink The People Skinny Jean $34.00
Another poppin’ flavor from Celebrity Pink.
This one is more of your casual every day jeans you can wear with anything from tank, tee to tunic.

These cute skinny jeans are all under $50.00! Not bad!

Saying Goodbye to Apartment 302

September 1, 2009 by cindy

kanpaiGoodbyes are always bittersweet. If you want to get cheesy, you can say it marks the end of one story and the beginning of another. However, in the end, even the tiniest of goodbyes always make me sad.

Today, our dearest Mari and Bao said sayonara to their super cute apartment #302. And it was funny because I think I was more upset about it than them. It’s not like they lived together for that long, but I just felt that these past couple of years, the girls and I did a lot of growing up. And I felt, a lot of my personal growing up took place at their lovely apartment.  And Bao and Mari sure knew how to make me feel welcome!

girlspluslomoarigatoTheir apartment was really cute. It was a charming two bedroom with really nice tall ceilings. (You can see Mari’s old room somewhere below^^) I remember laughing with Alisa when we saw the (ugly) seafoam green railings, but other than that, the apartment was so perfect for all our little GNOs and all our get-togethers with the gang.

asianposeWell, the girls threw a goodbye Bari Apartment (Bao+Mari=Bari) at my request (how sweet of them), and yes, I was the last one standing…or more like, last one out because I knocked out cold on the floor. The night was pretty much a blur, but I don’t remember the last time I had so much fun just talking nonsense for so many hours with all our good friends. I bet if Alisa ever reads this post, she’s gonna roll her enormous twinkly eyes and call me a drama queen, and yea, I’ll admit to being a big ball of melodrama. But I just wanted to take this time, before I went to bed, to pretty much log and close this part of our girly history with each other. So don’t hate.

Bao’s Top Five Sexy Hairstyles for Fall

August 27, 2009 by cindy

Summer is almost over (even though it sure doesn’t feel like it in beautiful -scorching hot- sunny Southern California.  So our dear Bao has compiled a list of the cutest hairstyles for the Fall 2009!

Lily+Cole2.jpeg (JPEG Image, 334x358 pixels)

1. Brushed Out Spiral Curls
Bao likes this look because your hair will have a nice spiral curl, but it won’t look too perfectly curled and hairsprayed, like you’re trying hard, haha.  Run your fingers after you curl your hair with a one inch barrel iron or use a paddle brush to fluff it up.  To avoid frizz, spritz a tiny bit of hairspray.

ashley_longbob2. long bob “lob”
The wash and go hair!  Perfect for those girls that just rather sleep in, hop in the shower and leave the house with their hair wet! Like Bao!

mkolsen.jpg (JPEG Image, 300x400 pixels)3. super long, full hair.
Can’t wait until your hair grows out? Why not just fake the funk! You could either go to a hair salon and spend hundreds of dollars for braid-in hair extensions, or you can go to Sally Beauty Supply store and buy a pack of clip-on human hair extensions for $60. Treat it like your own hair: shampoo, condition, and blow dry it! You can even dye it!

mulberryirina01.jpg (JPEG Image, 346x445 pixels)4. long blunt bangs
If you decide to cut them at home, make sure you form a triangle at the top of the bangs, and always leave the sides slightly longer than the middle to avoid any mess ups. It’s an instant makeover if you’re just bored of your hair one night. Instant gratification! Use hair scissors, not paper scissors, trust Bao (and me), we learned our lesson! To be safe rather than sorry, go to a hair salon – it only costs $5-10 for bang trim. And bring a picture, it speaks a million words!

fishtail-braid.jpg (JPEG Image, 207x260 pixels)

5. fishtails braids
Okay, this one’s kinda tough. Bao likes the look but has not yet achieved it. (Heck, she can’t even do an old fashion braid – her own words, not mine!).  So Bao found a very nice youtube tutorial. It’s in Japanese, but you’ll get the idea!

Do you have adorable kids? We don’t! Not that they’re not adorable…it’s just that we really don’t have kids.

But if we did, I’m sure Alisa would buy this super cutie patootie 3-D Play Rug for us all! Otherwise known as activity rugs, these lovely pieces of fabric will no doubt create an endless amount of joy and genuine good ol’ play time for your beautiful children.

Forget traditional doll houses and Micro Machines (do they still make those?) Give your kids a chance to play with an entire city. Teach your little ones the rules of the road and why traffic jams and accidents occur. If you have a darling princess-y type little girl like our dear Bao, you can smile and sigh while you watch her eyes light up as she goes crazy with interior decorating and organizing her purses and shoes.

All your kids need to play is a few horses, houses, people and some props, and they can sit there for hours, interacting with their fellow children-kind. So before toasting your child’s brain and body with inactivity and television, make sure to give these adorable 3-D play rugs a shot!
